Women's Tennis Overcomes Early Deficit In 4-3 Win at UConn

MANCHESTER, Conn. -- The Cornell women's tennis team rallied after dropping the doubles point to earn a 4-3 victory over UConn on Saturday at Magic Lincer Tennis Club. The Big Red improved to 6-5 on the season, while the Huskies fell to 7-4.

UConn claimed the early advantage by securing the doubles point with wins at the top two positions. The Huskies earned 6-2 and 6-3 victories at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles before the third match was left unfinished.

Cornell responded by winning four of six singles matches to secure the comeback victory. Freshman Dylan Gelber quickly evened the score with a straight-set win at No. 3, and Andrea Martinez De Los Rios followed with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 5.

After UConn picked up a point at No. 6 singles, Michelle Ryndin delivered a key win at the top spot, edging Ela Platenikova in straight sets. Victoria Zhao then clinched the team victory with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.

The victory marked Cornell's second consecutive road win as the Big Red continue their spring dual-match schedule.

Cornell is off until it visits Big Ten foe Rutgers on Monday, March 16 at 11 a.m.
