Women's Polo Visits Lonestar State With National Championship Hopes

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's polo team will compete to claim its first USPA Division I national title since 2016 when it heads to Prestonwood Polo & Country Club in Oak Point, Texas to face USC Aiken in the semifinals on Thursday, March 19 at 11 a.m. 

The semifinal winner will face either Texas A&M or Virginia in the national finals on Sunday, March 22 at 11 a.m. All matches will be broadcast live on USPA Polo Network. Cornell is 1-1 this season against Virginia and 0-1 against Texas A&M. 

Cornell is 11-3 on the season entering the tournament and is coming off a 20-7 victory over Marlan Farm this past Friday. The Big Red scored six times in the first chukker and then outscored the visitors 5-1 in the third to all but wrap up the contest. Lara Chong tallied eight times, including four times in the third, with Naomi Marlough scoring five times and Samantha Iahn tallying six goals. Eva Scott came off the bench to tally two in the fourth chukker to wrap up the scoring.

The defending Division II national champion has been elevated back to the Division I level this season and has responded by posting an 11-3 record. Fourth-year head coach Anthony Condo Jr., the Peter B. Orthwein `68 Head Coach of Polo, has guided the Big Red women to a 47-21 record (.691).
