ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell sailing split its weekend between two team-racing regattas, led by a fourth-place finish at the Blaire Herron Memorial Women's Team Race at Georgetown and a ninth-place result at the KP Open Team Race at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The Big Red women went 5-5 against a strong eight-team field in Washington, D.C., while Cornell's coed lineup posted a 2-8 mark in a weather-shortened event at Kings Point.
At Georgetown, the women opened with wins over St. Mary's, Old Dominion, Navy and Hobart & William Smith before adding another victory against Dartmouth to secure a spot in the top four. The Big Red lineup of Adrianna D'Agati, Gilda Dondona and Ava Gustafson with crews Paulina Freyre, Anna Iacobucci and Grace Penque ultimately finished fourth behind champion Georgetown, Tulane and Dartmouth.
At Kings Point, Cornell's coed squad defeated Kings Point and Christopher Newport in the round robin before moving into the bottom-four bracket. The Big Red lineup featured Sophia Devling, Matthew Schmitt, Winborne Majette and Marcus Greco with crews Sophia Mulvania, Emil Damji, Kathleen Keller, Laine Reshefsky and Maya Conway.
Cornell will return to Georgetown next weekend for the MAISA Spring Women's Fleet Race Championship, with a split squad heading to Coast Guard for the Callahan Team Race on Saturday and Sunday, March 28-29.
