Hower Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

THACA, N.Y. — Cornell baseball freshman outfielder Jake Hower has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. It is the first weekly honor of Hower's career and Cornell's first Rookie of the Week award since former catcher Mark Quatrani earned the honor on April 22, 2024.

Hitting for a .364 average (4-for-11) with a home run and three RBI in the Big Red's three-game series at Fordham this past weekend, Hower was one of four Big Red players with an OPS figure north of 1.000 (1.065). His biggest moment came in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader, when his go-ahead solo home run in the seventh inning proved to be the decisive run in the Big Red's 3-1 victory over the Rams. Hower also stole a base and reached base twice via hit by pitch, while recording 12 putouts and committing no errors.

A native of Erie, Pa., Hower has started in all 10 of Cornell's games so far this season, slashing .333/.381/.472 with two doubles, one home run and seven RBI. He has reached base in all but one game and has at least one base hit in eight of his 10 appearances.

Hower and Cornell baseball continue its season-opening 16-game road trip this weekend in Lexington, Va., with a three-game series against VMI (14-2). The series begins on Saturday, March 14, with a doubleheader slated for a 1 p.m. start. All three games on the weekend will be streamed live on ESPN+.
