ITHACA, N.Y. --- Five Cornell equestrian riders qualified for Zone Finals following the Regional Championships on Sunday at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red finished second in the region overall.
Riley Gerardo earned regional championships in both open fences and open flat to advance to Zone Finals. Jianna Simcik captured the regional championship in intermediate fences and finished as reserve champion in intermediate flat to also qualify for zones. Clara Beck won the regional championship in limit fences, Evelyn Gurvich claimed the regional championship in novice, and Alexa Carey earned the regional championship in introductory to round out Cornell's Zone Finals qualifiers. Janice Shen finished as reserve champion in introductory.
Gerardo also finished second in the Cacciatore Cup, while Erin Morera placed eighth and Jianna Simcik placed ninth in the competition.
Team horse Ren was named Regional Horse of the Year for the Big Red.
Morera placed third in intermediate flat and sixth in open fences at regionals. In limit fences, Madelyn Samtani finished third, Halle Avartin placed fourth and Jillian Ryan finished seventh. Clara Beck placed fifth in limit flat, while Uma Comfort finished fourth in novice flat.
