Women's Sailing Captures Fourth Straight MAISA Team Race Title, Earns Nationals Berth

| By:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Cornell sailing team continued its dominance on the conference stage, capturing its fourth consecutive MAISA Women's Team Race Championship with a perfect 16-0 record over the weekend at Georgetown to earn an automatic berth to the national championship. The Big Red swept through the field of nine teams, defeating Georgetown in the final round after earlier wins over Navy, St. Mary's (Md.) and Penn, cementing its place atop the Mid-Atlantic.

Cornell's depth proved decisive throughout the regatta, with the rotation of Winborne Majette, Sophia Devling, Ava Gustafson and Gilda Dondona at skipper, alongside crews Ava Stevens, Maya Conway, Paulina Freyre and Sophia Mulvania, consistently producing winning combinations. The Big Red controlled races with strong starting positions and clean team racing execution, closing out the championship with a commanding 1-2-3 sweep of runner-up Georgetown in the final four to secure the title and extend its conference streak.

The Big Red also competed at Navy's Truxtun Umsted regatta on the Severn River, finishing 14th in an 18-team fleet. Battling highly variable breeze on Saturday and building winds Sunday, Cornell totaled 323 points, with Marcus Greco and Adrianna D'Agati leading the A and B divisions, respectively.

Cornell is scheduled to compete for the America Trophy, the MAISA open conference title, at St. Mary's (Md.) on April 18-19.
