Women's Tennis Falls At Penn, 4-1

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Cornell women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Penn on Sunday at the Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Centers. The Big Red fell to 7-11 (0-5 Ivy League), while the Quakers improved to 11-10 (2-3 Ivy) with the win.

Cornell opened the match by claiming the doubles point with victories at Nos. 1 and 3. Michelle Ryndin and Sage Loudon earned a 6-4 victory at the top spot, while Martina Marica and Dylan Gelber secured a 6-3 triumph at No. 3 to give the Big Red the early 1-0 lead.

Penn responded in singles by winning four completed matches to secure the team victory. The Quakers picked up straight-set wins at Nos. 5, 1 and 2 before clinching at No. 4. Varsha Vedula defeated Andrea Martinez De Los Rios at No. 5, followed by victories from Esha Velaga over Ryndin at No. 1 and Lara Stojanovski over Victoria Zhao at No. 2. Maya Urata then sealed the match with a win against Gelber at No. 4.

Two matches were left unfinished once the outcome was decided. At No. 3, Loudon had taken the opening set before play was halted, while Emma Baker was trailing in her match at No. 6.

Cornell will close its 2025-26 campaign on the road next weekend, visiting Dartmouth (Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m.) and Harvard (Sunday, April 19 at 1 p.m.).
