ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's lacrosse juniors
Willem Firth and
Ryan Goldstein have been named to the Tewaaraton Award Top 25 Watch List, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Saturday.
The Big Red are one of six programs nationally to place multiple players on the list, joining Duke, North Carolina, Princeton, Richmond and Army.
Firth leads all Ivy League scorers and ranks sixth nationally with 5.09 points per game through 11 games. The junior attack has posted 35 goals and 22 assists for 57 points on the season, ranking sixth in the nation in goals per game (3.18) and 22nd in assists per game (1.91). His .407 shot percentage ranks seventh in the Ivy League.
Goldstein has been equally dangerous from the attack position, ranking 27th nationally and third in the Ivy League with 3.91 points per game. His 23 assists lead the Ivy League and rank 20th nationally at 2.00 per game, while his 21 goals rank 13th in the conference.
Together, Firth and Goldstein have combined for 56 goals and 45 assists, accounting for 101 of Cornell's 142 goals on the season. The Big Red entered Saturday's contest at Dartmouth 8-3 overall and 3-1 in Ivy League play.
Cornell's success extends beyond its two Tewaaraton honorees. The Big Red rank first nationally in man-up offense, converting 63.6 percent of their opportunities, and lead the Ivy League in clearing percentage (.890) and faceoff winning percentage (.579, 11th nationally). Junior faceoff specialist
Jack Cascadden ranks first in the conference and 16th nationally at a .594 winning clip.
The Tewaaraton Award is presented annually to the most outstanding men's and women's college lacrosse player in the United States. The Top 25 Watch List will be narrowed to five finalists before the winner is announced at the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
