ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's outdoor track and field competed Tuesday at Ithaca College, taking part in the first-ever outdoor meet at the new Egan Family Complex Track and Field Facility, where each event winner established an inaugural facility record.
The Big Red opened the day with a win in the 4x100-meter relay, as the quartet of Garrett Brennan, Ricardo Lagares Jr., Ryder King and Panashe Nhenga combined for a first-place finish to set the tone.
"The men's 4x1 was a great opener and just in time for the Penn Relays this weekend," head coach Adrian Durant said.
On the track, sophomore Seamus Finn led a strong showing in the 400 meters, winning in 48.86 to claim a facility record. Freshman Adam Kaufman followed in second (49.64), while junior Neil Chowdhurry placed fourth (50.19).
Sophomore Teddy Rauchway contributed in both the 200m and in the 110m hurdles, placing third in the 200m with a time of 22.79before winning the 110m hurdles in 14.66.
Cornell's distance group delivered a dominant performance in the 1,500 meters, sweeping the top two spots and placing seven runners in the top seven. Freshman Hunter Celkupa led the way with a winning time of 3:57.01, followed closely by senior Michael Dizon-Bunmann (3:57.69). Freshman Zach Leader (4:02.82), sophomore Andrew Ordway (4:03.01), freshman Benjamin Gibson (4:03.35), senior Zachary Winnicki (4:04.72) and freshman Brandon Gent (4:05.08) rounded out the group.
In the 800 meters, Ordway (2:01.18) and Gibson (2:01.51) placed second and third, with Gent (2:02.74) and Leader (2:05.32) adding additional top finishes.
In the field events, freshman Aidan Kerr secured a win in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.22m, while senior Joseph Rachiele claimed the javelin title with a throw of 55.52m, a personal best for him that he achieved on his first attempt of the competition. Freshman Brandon Dunn added a runner-up finish in the discus with a throw of 39.46m.
Cornell will look to build on the outing as they head to the annual and highly anticipated Penn Relays this weekend, beginning Thursday. Full meet info can be found here.
