PHILADELPHIA — Powered by a standout victory from Pierre Attiogbe, the Cornell men's track and field team turned in a strong opening day Thursday at the Penn Relays.
Attiogbe delivered the highlight of the day in the championship section of the 5,000 meters, claiming first place in a personal-best time of 13:37.70. The junior's performance moves him to No. 3 all-time in program history and currently ranks No. 2 in the Ivy League this season. Teammate Matthew O'Brien also competed in the event, placing 41st in 14:15.78.
Earlier in the day, Peter Northrup recorded a sixth-place finish in the college section of the hammer throw with a mark of 58.78 meters.
On the track, Ryder King produced a strong showing in the championship section of the 400-meter hurdles, placing fourth in a personal-best time of 50.72 seconds. The mark moves King to No. 2 all-time at Cornell and currently stands No. 2 in the Ivy League this season.
Cornell will continue competition Friday at the Penn Relays, with events scheduled to begin at noon EST for the Big Red. Live streaming will be available on FloTrack, with results provided on the Penn Relays website.
