ITHACA, N.Y. -- Despite wins in the top two spots in the singles order, the Cornell women's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to Brown on Sunday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red fell to 7-9 (0-3 Ivy League), while the Bears improved to 14-6 (1-2 Ivy) with the win.
Brown secured the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. The Bears edged Cornell's top pair of Michelle Ryndin and Sage Loudon in a tight 7-6 decision and added a 6-2 win at No. 3 to take the early lead. The No. 2 match was left unfinished.
Cornell responded in singles with victories at the top of the lineup. Ryndin cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1, and Loudon followed with a three-set triumph at No. 2 to give the Big Red a 2-1 edge in completed matches.
Brown answered with wins at Nos. 4 and 5 to regain control. Anne Yang topped Dylan Gelber in straight sets at No. 4, while Sari Woo defeated Andrea Martinez De Los Rios in three sets at No. 5.
The match was clinched at No. 3 singles, where Abigail Lee outlasted Victoria Zhao in a tightly contested three-set battle. The No. 6 match between Tanya Fan and Francesca Saroli was left unfinished with the third set still in progress.
Cornell will host Princeton on Friday, April 10 at 1 p.m. before hitting the road to meet Penn on Sunday, April 12 at 1 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
