ITHACA, N.Y. — Penn retained the Madeira Cup and Wray Trophy on Saturday morning on Cayuga Inlet, winning all four races against Cornell in challenging conditions before the Big Red rebounded to sweep Holy Cross in the late-morning session to close out the regular season.

Racing against Penn took place in a 10 mph variable headwind with flat water in the opening half before mild chop developed through the second half of the course.

Penn won each race against Cornell, with the closest margins coming in the 2V8+ and 3V8+, both being decided by three seconds or less. The Quakers pulled away more decisively in the 4V8+, while the 1V8+ — and with it the Madeira Cup — went to Penn by just over six seconds.

Having now won three consecutive Madeira Cup races, Penn has its first win streak of at least three races in the Madeira Cup since having a seven-title run between 1995 and 2001.

Cornell regrouped in the late-morning session against Holy Cross, sweeping all four races in a strong gusting headwind with light to moderate chop. The Big Red's most commanding margin came in the 4V8+, winning by more than 23 seconds. The 1V8+ was the closest race of the session, Cornell winning by under three seconds.
