KINGS POINT, N.Y. — Cornell sailing opened its fall season this weekend, competing in three regattas hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.

The Big Red posted their best result in the KP Women's Invite, finishing fourth out of nine teams in 420s under combined scoring. Cornell totaled 143 points, with a 46 in the A division and a 97 in the B division. Ava Gustafson '28 and Halina Diehl '30 sailed the A division for Cornell, with Grace Smith '30 also seeing time in the boat, while Caroline Lent '30, Grace Penque '29 and Avery Hoffman '30 sailed the B division. Fordham's Rams 1 squad won the event with 81 points, followed by Penn (104) and Columbia (118).

In the KP Dinghy Open Invite, sailed in FJs, Cornell entered two boats. Nikhil Damji '29 and Annabelle Ulak '30 led the A division with 106 points, while Leopold Faerber '29 and Emil Damji '29 posted 101 points in the B division. The Big Red finished seventh among nine teams. Fordham's Rams took first with a combined 88 points.

Cornell also sent two sailors to the ILCA North regatta, racing Lasers under singlehanded scoring. Beylen Gode '29 was the Big Red's top finisher, placing 12th out of 18 sailors with 87 points, and Matthew Schmitt '29 finished 16th with 116 points. Hobart and William Smith's Nicholas Crull '30 won the regatta with 20 points.

The weekend at Kings Point marked the first of four regattas on Cornell's early-season schedule as the Big Red begin fall competition in the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association. Cornell sailing will return to action Sept. 19-20, traveling to Annapolis, Md., for the Faye Bennett Women's Singlehanded regatta hosted by Navy.
