ITHACA, N.Y. -- When 106 football players hit campus for the 2014 season's training camp, you'd expect a lot of things to come with them. They were all on display on "Big Red Power" day - speed, strength, balance and explosiveness among them.

After reporting on Monday, Cornell went through athletic testing with a number of NFL combine-type drills, including the 225-pound bench press test, the broad jump, shuttle run and 10-yard sprint. Running all the players through the drills was the Big Red coaching staff and the strength and conditioning staff of Tom Howley, Jay Andress, Jeremy Golden and Erika Travis. Using baseline testing from the fall and summer, Cornell student-athletes tested out exceptionally well. The incoming freshmen and transfers also established a baseline they will look to build on over the season and into the next offseason.

The team followed its morning session with an afternoon practice in the shadow of Schoellkopf Field's famed Crescent, spending two hours with the conditioning test, followed by a dry walkthrough in t-shirts, shorts and helmets - a practice to teach the team how it will practice. At the conclusion of the day, the team gathered at midfield as the entire team and staff participated in the ALS Ice Bucket challenge. Look for video later in the week at CornellBigRed.com.

After a team meeting in the evening, the Big Red won't have to wait long to get back after it - practice No. 2 is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
