ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman guard
Nolan Cressler has been named the Ivy League Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week after playing a leading role in the Big Red's 63-55 win over Western Michigan in the 2012-13 season opener.
Cressler came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points and set a school freshman scoring record for a debut, surpassing the 18 points Ryan Wittman scored against Northwestern to open the 2006-07 campaign. He nailed 6-of-8 3-pointers and added two rebounds, an assist, a blocked shot and a steal without a turnover in 18 productive minutes. Cressler made all four shots, including three 3-pointers, in the first half for 11 points, and posted nine points, two rebounds and added the block, assist and steal in the second half.
Cressler and the rest of his Big Red teammates will square off against St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at Newman Arena in Bartels Hall. The game will be broadcast to a national audience on NBC Sports Network.
