Syracuse Plays Past Volleyball in Home Opener

ITHACA, N.Y.—
The Big Red volleyball team lost its home opener, 3-0, to Syracuse on Wednesday night at Newman Arena. Cornell battled the Orange in three close sets, but the Syracuse defense held out for the win. Junior Juliana Rogers led the Big Red with 14 kills.

Freshman Kelly Hansen joined Rogers to lead the Big Red offense with eight kills while hitting .357. Hansen also had a team-high three blocks. Junior libero Megan Mushovic led the Cornell back row with 20 digs. Senior captain Hilary Holland had 32 assists for Cornell.

The Syracuse trio of Erin Little, Kacie MacTavish and Hayley Todd each totaled eight kills for the Orange offense. Little also led her team at the net with seven block assists, while Sarah Morton and Todd each added six. Syracuse combined for 12 team blocks.

The Big Red will be back in action on Saturday night when it will play host to the Cornell Invitational. Cornell will play Robert Morris at 10 a.m. and Columbia in its Ivy opener at 7 p.m. Robert Morris and Columbia will also play at 2 p.m.
