The Big Red women's hockey team was edged out, 2-1, but Colgate on Saturday evening in ECAC Hockey action. The two teams were deadlocked at a goal apiece late in the third, but with less than two minutes left in the game, the Raiders' Katie Stewart notched the game-winner. Cornell moves to 7-7-2 overall and is 3-4-2 in ECAC Hockey, while Colgate improves to 9-9-2, 3-4-2 in league play.

Colgate's Sam Hunt put her team up by one at 4:20 into the first period. Hunt scored over the top of Cornell goaltender Kayla Strong's left shoulder off a pass from Kiira Dosdall. Hannah Milan also assisted on the goal.

The Raiders held their lead until 11:01 of the second period. Cornell tied the game at 1-1 on a power-play goal by Liz Zorn. Demonstrating crisp passing, sophomore Karlee Overguard put the puck on the stick blade of freshman Catherine White. White was behind the Big Red goal and set up Zorn on the opposite side of the crease. Zorn one-timed the puck into the top shelf before Colgate goaltender Lisa Plenderleith could recover.

The Big Red created solid scoring opportunities to open the third period, but Plenderleith stood firm in net. With 1:41 remaining in the game, Stewart received a pass from Krista Dermott after a dump-in into the left corner. Stewart scored the game-winner with a wrist shot at the side of the net.

After the goal, Cornell took a time out and quickly pulled Strong in favor on an extra attacker. Strong returned to the net after a Big Red icing call, but once play resumed in Cornell's possession she skated to the bench once again. The Big Red was unable to score, and the Raiders came away with the victory.

The Big Red was 1-5 on the power-play, while Colgate was 0-5. Strong made 34 saves in net, and Plenderleith picked up the win with 21 saves.

The Big Red will travel to Colgate on Sunday afternoon for a 3 p.m. contest.
