ITHACA, N.Y.—The Big Red women's squash team shut out Dartmouth, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Belkin International Squash Courts. Cornell's win over the Big Green marks its first conference victory since the 2001-02 campaign. The Big Red improves to 5-4 on the season.
“I was thrilled with the way that everyone played,” head coach Julee Devoy said about her team's performance. “The team enjoyed its first in season Ivy win. We will now look to build from here, and will be working hard and looking forward to the team championships in three weeks.”
Jenn Gemmell, Shivangi Paranjpe, Liza Stokes, Alex Cornett, Rachel Wagner, Annie Ritter and Izzy Spyrou all blanked their opponents 3-0. At the No. 6 position, Cornett won the first two games by 9-0 scores and only allowed her opponent to notch three points in the third game. At the No. 7 and No. 8 positions, Rachel Wagner and Annie Ritter posted identical scores with 9-2, 9-0, 9-1 wins, respectively.
The Big Red will be back in action on Sunday morning when Cornell will play host to Williams for a 10 a.m. match.
