Wrestling Defends Southern Scuffle Title with Three Champions

GREENSBORO, N.C. --Cornell continued with big action on day two of the Southern Scuffle. Kyle Dake, Mack Lewnes, and Cam Simaz all captured the title.  Additionally, Mack Lewnes was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler. Troy Nickerson took second after a cautious injury default in the finals.  Other placing include third place for Mike Grey, fifth place finishes by Justin Kerber and Steve Bosak, and a sixth place finish for Josh Arnone.  Cornell captured its second team title in a row with 164.00 points to defeat Minnesota University (151.50) and Indiana University (131.50).  Cornell's next wrestling event will be in Iowa for the National Duals January 9th and 10th.

  • Troy Nickerson won his first three matches of the year by fall.
  • True freshman Kyle Dake earned bonus point in three of his four matches so far and was seeded first in the tournament
  • Justin Kerber wrestled for the first time this season at his third weight for Cornell during his career.  Finally at his preferred weight of 165, Kerber posted an impressive 5th place finish.
  • Junior Mack Lewnes pinned three of his four opponents and  earned a major decision on the other- earning bonus points for the team on all of his matches leading into the finals.  Sophomore Cam Simaz earned bonus points for all of his matches at the tournament.
  • Steve Bosak piled up an impressive 6:28 of riding time during his 5th place match over Nick Purdue of Ohio University to win 9-0.
