PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Blake Gallagher's goal with 2:47 to play in overtime capped a comeback from a two-goal deficit as the Cornell men's hockey team grabbed a 3-2 victory over Brown on Saturday night in Providence. The Cornell win, coupled with Princeton's 3-2 loss at Harvard on Saturday night, gives the Big Red the second seed in the upcoming ECAC Hockey tournament.

Gallagher, Patrick Kennedy and Colin Greening each scored a goal for the Big Red, which trailed, 2-0, in the third period. Brown led, 1-0, after two periods and added a second goal early in the third before Cornell staged its comeback. Michael Kennedy had a pair of assists, while Locke Jillson, Mike Devin and Greening each added one helper.

Ben Scrivens stopped 24 shots in picking up the victory, while Brown goaltender Mike Clemente had 39 saves in taking the loss. Cornell finished the night 2-for-6 on the power play, with Brown closing out the contest 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

After a scoreless first period, the Bears got on the scoreboard first with Brown on the power play. Scrivens went behind his goal to play the puck, but it caromed off the boards directly to Matt Vokes, who punched the puck into the goal for the 1-0 lead.

Brown would take that lead into the second intermission and added to it just under four minutes into the third period. Ryan Garbutt scored an even strength goal that put the Big Red in a two-goal deficit for the second straight night.

Kennedy got the Big Red on the scoreboard at the 8:49 mark of the third period with his fourth goal of the season, with Locke Jillson and Mike Devin collecting assists. Kennedy's goal came just as a penalty on Brown's Jack McLellan expired, with Kennedy following up his own rebound to put the puck past Brown freshman goaltender Mike Clemente.

Cornell tied the score on Colin Greening's 14th goal of the season at the 14:06 mark of the third period, a power play goal with an assist to Michael Kennedy. The score would remain deadlocked at two throughout the rest of the third period, setting up Gallagher's overtime heroics.

Cornell will now await its opponent in the upcoming ECAC Hockey tournament, as the Big Red will host a quarterfinal series on March 13-15 at Lynah Rink. Each game of the best two-of-three series will begin at 7 p.m.
