HAMDEN, Conn.—The Big Red women's hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie at Quinnipiac on Friday night in an action-packed ECAC Hockey contest. Sophomore Rebecca Johnston notched two goals, while freshman Catherine White picked up a goal and an assist. The Big Red improves to 11-10-3 overall and 7-7-3 in conference action.

Johnston gave the Big Red a 1-0 lead at 4:24 of the first period off her 18th goal of the season. The forward grabbed an across-ice pass from freshman Chelsea Karpenko and shot the puck past Quinnipiac goaltender Nanna Holm-Glaas.

Defenseman Sam Wauer lengthened the Big Red's lead to two when she netted her second goal of the season at 8:04 of the first.

At 12:55, Quinnipiac had a three-on-one scoring opportunity skating all the way down the ice. Trudy Reyns passed off to Kallie Flor, who wristed a shot up over Big Red goaltender Jenny Niesluchowski's shoulder.

Cornell outshot the Bobcats 14-7 for the period and took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

The Big Red created numerous scoring opportunities in the second and continued to outshoot the Bobcats, but Holm-Glaas stood firm in goal for Quinnipiac.

At 19:11 of the second period, the Quinnipiac forwards came crashing into the Big Red zone. Janine Duffy tied the score at two goals apiece on a shot that was assisted by Kelly Davies

With less than two minutes off the clock in the third period, Antoinete Maldonado shot the puck at Niesluchowski who covered it and thought she had it frozen. With a lack of a referee whistle, Maldonado continued to hit at Niesluchowski until the puck was in the Big Red net. Chelsea Illchuck assisted on the goal.

Freshman Amanda Mazzotta took over in net for the Big Red after the goal.

The Big Red went on the power play at 7:43 off an obstruction hooking penalty from Danielle Alexieff. With a little over 30 seconds left in the penalty, junior Liz Zorn let off a big shot that rebounded off the back boards. Freshman Catherine White found the puck at the right side of the net and scored at 9:12 of the third period.

Cornell picked up momentum after the game-tying goal, and Johnston charged into the Quinnipiac zone. Johnston ducked around the Bobcat defense and scored her second goal of the game at 10:20. White assisted on the goal.

At 12:58 of the third, Duffy shot at Mazzotta, who let off a rebound in front of the net. Duffy grabbed her own rebound and shoved it into the Cornell goal to tie the game.

Neither team was able to score again, and the game went into overtime.

With around three minutes left in overtime, Quinnipiac created two big scoring opportunities, but Mazzotta held firm in net making the saves to keep the game tied.

With time running out, Johnston stole the puck away from a Quinnipiac defender and shot at the Bobcats goal. The Bobcats' goalie let off a rebound, but the Big Red could not scored before time expired.

Mazzotta made 18 saves in net for the Big Red, while Holm-Glaas had 32.

Cornell will remain on the road on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game at Princeton. The Big Red's contest against the Tigers will be available live on video as part of Cornell's RedCast subscription.
