WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Cornell men's and women's squash teams both picked up a sweep over the weekend, downing Dartmouth on Saturday and scoring victories over Williams on Sunday. The women won both matches by 7-2 scores, while the men won Saturday, 6-3, and Sunday, 7-2.
For the women, both matches featured straight victories from the third through ninth spots in the lineup, led by
Rebecca Hazell's wins both days at the three position. On Saturday, three of the Big Red's wins were straight wins, with Hazell's match going four games and two others going to five. Saturday, only Hazell's match went to four games, with six of Cornell's wins coming by 3-0 margins.
On the men's side,
Chris Sachvie led five Big Red players to 2-0 records on the week with his wins at the third position.
Arjun Gupta,
Thomas Spettigue,
Rishi Jalan and
Owen Butler also had perfect 2-0 marks as Cornell gained the sweep.
With the two wins for both teams, the men have won three straight matches to move their record to 6-4 on the year. The women, meanwhile, have won four straight matches and improved to 6-5.
The two teams are off this weekend and will return to action on Feb. 6, taking on Franklin & Marshall and St. Lawrence at the Belkin International Squash Courts. The two matches will wrap up the regular season for the women, while the men close out the regular season on Feb. 7 when they will face Rochester and Hobart.
