ITHACA, N.Y. – The Big Red volleyball team battled with Brown, but in the end, the Bears proved to be too much, beating the home team in straight sets: 25-21, 25-18, 25-20. Cornell (4-19, 2-11 Ivy) closes out its season tomorrow night and says goodbye to its seniors – Alessa Cekauskas and Erin McCarthy – as it takes on Yale at 5 p.m. The game is a double-header with the women's basketball team, which opens its season against Cleveland State at 2 p.m., and one ticket will admit you to both contests. Additionally, anyone wearing red will be admitted to the game for free.

The Big Red was led by Kelly Hansen's nine kills, while Madeleine Przybyl chipped in six kills and three block assists. Setter Jordan Reeder tallied 27 assists, eight digs and two block assists, while Erin McCarthy added 14 digs. Libero Taylor Nieman led the team with 17 digs.

Brown (9-16, 3-10 Ivy) was led by Katrina Post and Brianna Williamson with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, with Williamson adding 15 digs. Annika Gliottone had a game-high 19 digs and Alexandra Rieckhoff registered 36 assists.

After battling to a 7-7 tie in the first set, Brown registered six unanswered points behind the strong serving of Post to take a 13-7 lead. A kill by Hansen ended the run but another small run by the Bears, culminating with a kill from Williamson, put the visitors up, 18-10. The Big Red slowly worked its way back into the set, capitalizing on several Brown miscues and using back-to-back kills by Alice Cope and Hansen to pull within two, 23-21, but that was as close as it would get as a Cornell attack error and a kill by Emma Pastore gave Brown the 25-21 victory.

Brown jumped out to an early 9-4 lead in the second set and eventually extended its lead to 10 points, 16-6. Trailing 20-10, Cornell used kills by Sierra Young and Przybyl to spark a run, but could not come all the way back, falling 25-18.

In the third set, Brown again jumped out to an early lead, going up 11-6, but Cornell scored five unanswered points to knot the set at 11-11. During the run, the Big Red got kills from Rachel D'Epagnier, Hansen and Kelly Marble. A kill by Danielle Vaughan ended the run, but D'Epagner answered with a kill of her own to knot the set at 12-12. The teams traded points to 14-14 when a kill by Pastore, and two straight kills from Post were followed by a Cornell error, giving the visitors the 18-14 lead. The Big Red would not manage to get any closer than four points the rest of the way as Brown rolled to the 25-20 victory.
