ITHACA, N.Y. -- John Esposito, Patrick Kennedy and Tyler Roeszler each scored a goal as the Cornell men's hockey team skated to a 3-1 victory over Alabama-Huntsville on Friday night at Lynah Rink. The win, the second in a row for the Big Red, lifts Cornell to 4-6 on the season, while UAH falls to 2-12-1.

Joe Devin had a pair of helpers on the night, with Kirill Gotovets adding one. Mike Garman made 24 saves in picking up his second win of the season. Cornell finished the night scoreless in three power-play chances, while keeping Alabama-Huntsville off the scoreboard in its two extra-man opportunities.

For the Chargers, Vince Bruni scored the only goal of the game, with Ryan Burkholder tallying an assist. Clarke Saunders made 32 saves in the losing effort for Alabama-Huntsville.

After a scoreless first period that also saw neither team whistled for a penalty, the Big Red got on the board with Esposito's tally, his third of the year, at the 6:53 mark. Devin started the play by intercepting a pass at the UAH blue line and firing a shot that rebounded off the end boards and right onto the stick of Esposito, who easily slotted the puck past Saunders, who was at the top of the crease for the initial shot.

Kennedy tacked on his first goal of the year at the 11:53 mark of the period, taking a pass from Gotovets on the weak side of the goal and firing a shot into a gaping net for the 2-0 lead. Roeszler then added to the lead with 1:08 to play in the second period, taking a pass from Devin, circling into the slot and ripping a shot that slipped underneath the cross bar as the Big Red went into the second intermission up, 3-0.

In the third, Cornell kept the Chargers at bay until, with the two teams skating 4-on-4, the Huntsville defense blocked a shot and Burkholder fed a pass to Bruni in the neutral zone to start a 2-on-1. Bruni then skated in on Garman and beat the junior netminder to end the shutout bid at the 14:44 mark of the period.

Cornell and Alabama-Huntsville close out the two-game series on Saturday with a 7 p.m. contest at Lynah Rink.
