BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Cornell baseball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of Florida Atlantic on Tuesday night, as Cornell dropped a 10-5 contest to the Owls in Boca Raton, Fla. The Owls improved to 12-7 on the year, while Cornell fell to 3-2.
Jadd Schmeltzer took the loss for the Big Red, working five innings and allowing eight runs, all of them earned. Schmeltzer struck out five and allowed eight hits in his first appearance of the season.
Rick Marks made his Cornell debut in relief, allowing a pair of runs in three innings on four hits while striking out three.
At the plate,
Nate David and
Brenton Peters both had a pair of base hits on the day for Cornell, as 15 different players recorded an at-bat on the day. Seven of those 15 had a base hit as the Big Red banged out nine hits, six of those being doubles.
For Florida Atlantic, Andy Mee went 5-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI as he hit for the cycle on the day. Taylor Everist got the win, working five scoreless innings while striking out four and walking one.
The Big Red and the Owls will close out the two-game series on Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. contest in Boca Raton, Fla. Cornell will then return north for a four-game set against Army this weekend at West Point, N.Y.
