NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Cornell men's basketball team closed the regular season by winning its 27th game, matching the second-best total ever by an Ivy League school with a 79-59 victory at Yale on Saturday evening at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. Cornell will enter the NCAA tournament with a 27-4 mark (13-1 Ivy),

Senior Ryan Wittman hit six 3-pointers to set an Ivy League season record and become the first player in league history to hit 100 in one year en route to his 20 points. He scored 17 of his points in the second half. Louis Dale added 18 points, five assists and two steals, giving him 13 assists and zero turnovers for the weekend. Chris Wroblewski chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists and Jeff Foote notched nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. The Big Red shot 53 percent from the floor and made 12-of-21 3-pointers, including 8-of-10 after halftime. Cornell was credited with 19 assists and just nine turnovers.

On his senior night, Alex Zampier scored 24 points and made 5-of-9 3-pointers as the only Bulldog player in double figures. Yale shot just 37 percent from the floor and 35 percent from beyond the arc. Michael Sands added nine points and six rebounds.

Cornell picked up where it left off on Friday night, jumping out to a 20-7 lead six minutes in with the visitors hitting four of their first five 3-pointers. A raucous home crowd and some tough field goals by Zampier got the Bulldogs back in the game, getting within six. Yale got within four (46-42) with 13 minutes to play in the second half before Cornell dug in and took the win home. Dale hit a driving layup for a three-point play. After yet another Zampier basket, Foote made a pair of free throws and Dale hit a bomb to push it to double figures. That sparked a 16-2 run as the lead grew to as many as 25. The Big Red was never threatened.

The Big Red will now await to find out its opponent, time, date and site for the NCAA tournament first round. Cornell will gather for the Selection Show on CBS on Sunday, March 14.
