BALTIMORE – One day after being named the Ivy League Player of the Week, Cornell sophomore
Rob Pannell earned national honors as the Nike/
Inside Lacrosse Division I Player of the Week. He becomes the first Big Red player to win the award since Eric Pittard (April 16, 2007) and Matt McMonagle (April 23, 2007) won it in back-to-back weeks. The award has existed since the start of the 2004 season.
Pannell was instrumental in Cornell's 13-12 victory over Harvard on April 10, capping an eight-point day with the game-winning goal in the final moments of the game. Pannell led the Big Red offense with three goals and five assists, registering five of his eight points in the crucial fourth quarter, as Cornell erased an 8-7 deficit to earn its third Ivy League win.
In addition to the game-winner, Pannell also scored the game-tying goal with 2:42 to play in the contest. He also caused three turnovers, helping Cornell to cause six failed Harvard clears, while not turning the ball over at any point during the game.
Pannell, who has assisted on nearly 50% of team's total assists, currently leads the nation both in points (5.10) and assists (3.30) entering Tuesday's contest vs. No. 2 Syracuse. Cornell and the Orange will face-off at 7 p.m.
