ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Virginia Cavaliers rode into town on Friday night hoping to build on its last performance against the Big Red in the William S. Field Invitational. In that game, Cornell rushed to an early lead and then watched UVa work their way back into the match to make it interesting. Luckily for the Big Red, the home team was ready from the get-go and earned a dominant 29-8 win to improve to 14-0 on the season.
Virginia scored first and then had to withstand 10 straight goals by the Red over the course of the first and second chukker before they would tally again. Cornell took complete control in the first half with
Lizzie Wisner and
Kailey Eldredge scoring seven goals each, with Jess Cross, the horses and one penalty adding up to the halftime score of 17-3.
Ali Hoffman replaced Crossin the second half and the Big Red continued to add to the margin by outscoring the Cavaliers 11-6 in the second half to bring home the 29- 8 win for the Big Red. Wisner finished with 11 goals, Eldredge scored eight, Hoffman notched four, there were a pair of penalty goals, and the ponies and Cross were each credited with one goal.
