HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth scored four times in the final 4:40 of the first half and Kat Collins' four goals led the 19th-ranked Big Green to a 13-7 victory over Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field. Dartmouth improved to 8-2 (4-0 Ivy), while Cornell fell to 3-7 (1-4 Ivy) with the loss.
Katie Kirk had three goals and an assist and Jessi Steinberg chipped in a goal and an assist for Cornell in the loss. Kelly Lang won four draw controls and earned four ground balls, both team highs, while the Cornell defense caused five Dartmouth turnovers. In goal, Kyla Dambach made six saves, all coming in the first 30 minutes.
Collins scored four times and both Greta Meyer and Hana Bowers were credited with three goals and an assist for Dartmouth on the offensive end, with Collins adding three caused turnovers. Sarah Parks had a pair of assists directing the offense. Kristen Giovanniello made seven saves in goal for the Big Green and also won four ground balls.
Dartmouth held a sizable 30-18 edge in shots, including a 19-6 edge in the decisive first half. The home team also won 14-of-22 draw controls.
The Big Red was within 4-3 after Caroline Salisbury found the back of the net with 5:38 left in the first half in what looked like a defensive battle, but Meyer was able to score two of Dartmouth's four goals in the final 4:40 of the half to extend the lead to 8-3 at the break.
Cornell could never cut into the deficit after halftime, trading goals most of the way before the vsitors crawled back within 11-7 with just under 10 minutes to play. Dartmouth responded by scoring the final two goals of the contest to come home with the victory.
