ITHACA, N.Y. – The 45th-ranked men's tennis team rolled to a pair of 7-0 sweeps over Buffalo and Boston College in its team-scoring debuts on Sunday at Reis Tennis Center.
 
The Big Red (2-0) started the day against Buffalo (0-1) by taking the doubles point. The second and third pairings of freshmen Jason Luu and Sam Fleck, and Alex Sidney and Quoc-Daniel Nguyen came through to get Cornell on the board before all six singles matches went the hosts' way.
 
Cornell kept rolling against the Eagles, handing the Atlantic Coast Conference its first loss in nine matches this season. The Big Red collared another doubles point through wins at Nos. 2 and 3, with Evan McElwain joining the lineup to pair with Nguyen in the latter match.
 
Sophomore Venkat Iyer, ranked 98th nationally and fourth in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, topped the region's 14th-ranked player in Akash Muppidi at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. The Big Red didn't drop a set all day, with Fleck (No. 2), Nguyen (No. 3), freshman Danny Riggs (No. 4), Sidney (No. 5) and Luu (No. 6) rounding out dominance in singles play.
 
The Big Red's next match comes Saturday, Jan. 28 as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Cornell will visit No. 3 Ohio State (3-0) at 10 a.m. that day, testing the Buckeyes' 131-match winning streak at home in Columbus, Ohio.
