10/24/2012 9:37:00 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Big Red sprint football team has had a week off after two consecutive losses, and now it is time for sprint football to return to the field. Cornell will take on visiting Post University at Schoellkopf Field on Friday night looking to break the tie in the lifetime series.

GAME TIME: Friday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m.
GAME SITE: Schoellkopf Field (Ithaca, N.Y.)
SERIES RECORD: Series tied 1-1
LAST MEETING: Post won 25-20 on Sept. 23, 2011
2012 RECORDS: Cornell (3-2, 2-2 CSFL), Post (3-2, 3-2 CSFL)
LIVE STATS: Cornell Live Stats
LIVE VIDEO: RedCast

THE HEAD COACH
Coach Terry Cullen is now in his 47th season at the helm of the Big Red program with a 166-129-7 record (.561). Cullen has been a member of the coaching staff since 1964 and officially became the Terry Cullen Head Coach of Sprint Football in 2001.

THE CO-HEAD COACH
In August 2008, Cornell announced that Bart Guccia would assume a majority of the on-field coaching and gameday decisions for the Big Red. Guccia is now in his seventh year with the team and has posted a 19-12 record (.613) in his new role.

ABOUT POST
The Eagles, who call Waterbury, Conn., their home, are 3-2 on the season with the same record in Collegiate Sprint Football games. This contest against Cornell will be their final league game of the year. Post is coming off a commanding 48-27 against Penn and is on a three-game winning streak after starting the year with losses to Army and Navy. The Eagles finish their schedule next weekend at Franklin Pierce in a non-conference contest.

THE SERIES WITH POST
The Big Red and Eagles have met just two times in the teams' history as Post is a relatively new addition to sprint football. Cornell won the first ever meeting in 2010 by a 22-14 score, but Post stormed back in 2011 to claim victory 25-20. In that game last season on the road, Cornell held a 13-6 lead entering the fourth quarter before allowing the Eagles to score 19 points for the comeback victory.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Post's offense is averaging an impressive 30 points per game this season, and the Eagles have a fairly balanced attack. They run the ball for 90 yards per game and throw it for 221 yards per game with quarterbacks Shawn Boose and Dwayne Carter splitting time under center. Boose is also the team's leading rusher with 164 yards on the ground while freshman Quinton Bryant has also gained 160 yards rushing. The Eagles' dual receiving threat of Jay'Len Mahan and Daniel Awwad each have five touchdowns in the air and more than 300 receiving yards.
Defensively, senior Kyle Lagasse is far and away the team's top tackler with 37 tackles and five for loss. He also has one sack and one interception. Christopher Lopez is also strong on defense as the junior linebacker has 10 tackles for loss and four sacks. Freshman defensive back Mundo Ramirez has five pass breakups on the season.

A WIN OVER THE EAGLES WOULD…
…give Cornell the edge in the series with Post at two wins and one loss…clinch a season record over .500 for the first time since 2010…snap the Eagles' three-game winning streak.

BYE WEEK BLUES
In its last eight games following a bye week, Cornell is now 1-7 since 2001.

LAST TIME OUT
The Big Red fell to Navy by a score of 11-3 two weeks ago on Schoellkopf Field, unable to score a touchdown for the first time in four years. The game was tied 3-3 in the second quarter before Cornell stepped out of the end zone on a punt attempt for a safety that gave Navy a 5-3 lead. The Midshipmen kicked two more field goals to seal the contest.

ARMY LOSS
The Big Red came up against more than it could handle at Army on Oct. 5, falling by a 38-14 scoreline. Despite holding the Black Knights to their lowest point total of the year, the Big Red could not get its own offense going. The loss marred what had been an undefeated season.

300
Against Princeton on Sept. 28, Terry Cullen coached his 300th game in charge of the Big Red. Cornell outscored the Tigers 20-0 in the first half and went on for a 22-15 victory in their head coach's 300th contest at the helm. Cullen has won a share of five CSFL championships since he became the team's head coach in 1977.

NEVERMORE
Cornell welcomed Franklin Pierce to sprint football with a 26-21 victory over the Ravens on Sept. 22. The game, held at a high school field in Massachusetts, was Franklin Pierce's first-ever football game. Charles Clausner was the hero, making the game-winning touchdown catch with just over two minutes to play. The defense then held firm, forcing a Ravens turnover on downs to end the contest.

OVERTIME THRILLER
Cornell's six-overtime victory against Penn was the longest game in program history and equaled the total number of overtimes the team had ever played to that point. The Big Red had previously only gone to overtime five times, with their first overtime game in 1996 going to double overtime. Cornell's other four extra-period games ended after the first overtime. The team is now 4-2 in overtime games.

LEAGUE RANKINGS
Despite scoring only three points against Navy two weeks ago, the Big Red still has the second best offense in the league with 330 total yards per game. Quarterback Brendan Miller is still second in the conference in passing yards, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark last week and now sitting at 1,046 yards. He also has seven passing touchdowns, tied for third in the CSFL. Michael Monahan is fourth in the conference with his 48 tackles, and Riley Scott is tied for third with three interceptions.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
Last week in CSFL action, Navy handled Mansfield by a 48-7 score, Post defeated Penn 48-27 and Army blanked Princeton 59-0. The Midshipmen and Black Knights will meet next weekend for what should be a de facto league championship game.

VERY SPECIAL
Kicker John Rodriguez was named the CSFL's Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 3 after he kicked two field goals against Princeton. His kicks from 48 yards and 25 yards out helped the Big Red to a 20-0 halftime lead. He was also perfect in two extra-point tries.

OFFENSIVELY MINDED
Senior receiver Abe Mellinger was named the CSFL's Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19 for his eight-catch, 102-yard performance against Penn. Mellinger is the first Cornell player to earn the honor since Doug Famularo did after week three of the 2010 season. Mellinger currently tops the CSFL with his eight catches.

UP NEXT
The Big Red closes its 2012 season with a home game against Mansfield on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. The Big Red has never lost to the Mounties.
