ITHACA, N.Y. — Jillian Saulnier scored a power-play goal in the third period, and Brianne Jenner had a goal and an assist in the women's hockey team's 3-2 victory over Yale on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink.

The victory was the third in a row for second-ranked Cornell (4-1, 2-0 ECAC Hockey), which held a dominating advantage against Yale in both shots on goal (42-10) and faceoffs (43-21).

But it was the upstart Bulldogs, fresh off a victory at Colgate in their league opener, who struck first on a fluky strike. The Big Red won a faceoff back behind its own goal line that caused confusion before the puck finally popped out front. Yale's Jamie Haddad was free to bang in the unassisted power-play tally just 4:10 into the game.

The Bulldogs were privy to the game's first five power plays, hampering the Big Red's progress. But when Cornell struck, it did so in quick succession to both erase its deficit and acquire its first lead.

Jenner broke through with her second goal of the season at the 5:42 mark of the second period. Her high shot from the right circle was stopped, but the puck landed in traffic – including freshman forward Anna Zorn – in front and bounced back into the net. Jillian Saulnier was credited with the lone assist.

Junior Jessica Campbell gave the Big Red the lead 19 seconds later, flagging down a long Laura Fortino pass up the middle and shoveling a shot over the right shoulder of Yale goalie Jaimie Leonoff.

Yale equalized a little shy off five minutes later on Kate Martini's goal on a two-man advantage, when her one-timer from the top of the left circle squeezed through the pads of Cornell goalie Lauren Slebodnick.

Saulnier then netted the winner early in the third on a set play. Jenner and Lauriane Rougeau had the assists.
