DOVER, Del. -- Delaware State's pitching quieted an otherwise hot Cornell offense in picking up a doubleheader sweep of the Big Red on Friday afternoon. The Hornets picked up 3-1 and 8-2 victories, dropping Cornell to 8-10 overall on the season.

In game one, the home team scored two runs in the third after the Big Red had tied the game at 1-1 and held on for the victory. Cornell could only scratch out three hits, including Clare Feely's first career home run. Kristen Towne and Lauren Bucolo also claimed hits. Jenna Stoller and Alyson Onyon each threw three innings in the circle, with Onyon allowing just two hits in her scoreless relief appearance.

Delaware State's Casey Beighley picked up the win with 4.2 innings of solid work, allowing just two hits and one run. Stephanie Sarris gave up just one hit in 2.1 innings of relief work. Beighley also went 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate, with Jordan Reid going 2-for-3 with two runs scored .

The Hornets scored a run in the first and second, then exploded for five runs in the third to break open a tight game. In the first two innings, it was the leadoff runner reaching that hurt Cornell, but the third saw the five runs scored off four hits, a Cornell error, a hit batter and a walk.

Cornell mustered six hits in the loss (from six different hitters), with the two Big Red runs coming in the sixth inning thanks to a pair of hits and two consecutive errors on fielder's choices.
