PRINCETON, N.J. — The men's tennis team finished its season in style on Sunday with a 4-3 win at Princeton, giving the Big Red three straight Ivy League victories to cap the campaign. Freshmen
Sam Fleck and
Quoc-Daniel Nguyen finished the season on five-match winning streaks in singles.
Cornell (10-15, 3-4) won four of the day's six singles matches after getting swept in doubles.
It was just the ninth victory all-time for the Big Red against the Tigers, but it was also the sixth consecutive win. Both Fleck and classmate
Danny Riggs won in straight sets with the help of a tiebreaker at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions, respectively. Princeton also won a pair of two-set singles matches, leaving the balance of the match in three-set matches at Nos. 4 and 6.
The Big Red won both tilts. Nguyen won his team-leading 14th singles match of the season at No. 6, rallying to take down Dan Davies, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman
Jason Luu also won his match at No. 5, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, to help Cornell finish the season on a strong note. All of the nine competitors that saw dual match action for the Big Red season are either freshmen or sophomores.
