THE HEAD COACH

THE CO-HEAD COACH
In August 2008, Cornell announced that Bart Guccia would assume a majority of the on-field coaching and gameday decisions for the Big Red. Guccia is now in his seventh year with the team and has posted a 18-11 record (.621) in his new role.

300
Friday night's contest will be the 300th game in Terry Cullen's head coaching career. Cullen has won a share of five CSFL championships since he became the team's head coach in 1977.

ABOUT PRINCETON
The Tigers, based in Princeton, N.J., have not won a game since 2005 and are again 0-2 to start the 2012 campaign. Princeton lost by a tight 23-16 margin to open the year vs. Mansfield and was defeated 62-13 by Navy last week at home. The Tigers are coached by Stephen Everette, now in his second year with the team.

THE SERIES WITH PRINCETON
Cornell has played Princeton more than any opponent except Penn, facing off with the Tigers 90 total times over the years. Cornell has won 32 more games in the series than it has lost, with the teams tying four times over the years. Cornell has not fallen to Princeton since 1999, which was the Tigers' last CSFL victory. Cornell claimed a 49-7 victory last year at Schoellkopf Field when Brendan Miller completed 13 of 15 passes for 211 yards, Abe Mellinger and Spenser Gruenefelder each had two receiving touchdowns and the defense had four interceptions.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Princeton is averaging 14.5 points per game so far this season and has a stronger passing game than running game. The Tigers have earned 108 passing yards per game to just 55 rushing yards per contest. Quarterbacks Jaison Zachariah and Joseph Bush have split time as Zachariah has attempted 22 passes while Bush has thrown 18. Leading receiver Chris Cadman has five catches for 69 yards and a touchdown, and running back Sean Conrad is averaging 6.2 yards per carry and has 200 yards on the year. On defense, Cadman tops the team with 13 tackles and two interceptions.

A WIN OVER THE TIGERS WOULD…
…be the 13th consecutive victory against Princeton…start the season 3-0 for the first time since 2010…start the season with a 2-0 mark in league play for the first time since 2010.

NEVERMORE
Cornell welcomed Franklin Pierce to sprint football with a 26-21 victory over the Ravens on Saturday. The game, held at a high school field in Massachusetts, was Franklin Pierce's first-ever football game. Charles Clausner was the hero, making the game-winning touchdown catch with just over two minutes to play. The defense then held firm, forcing a Ravens turnover on downs to end the contest.

STARTING STRONG
After defeating Penn on Sept. 14, Cornell has now won its last three opening games, defeating Mansfield in the first contest in 2011 and 2010. Cornell is 5-2 in the last seven seasons in its first game at Schoellkopf Field.

OVERTIME THRILLER
Cornell's six-overtime victory against Penn was the longest game in program history and equaled the total number of overtimes the team had ever played to that point. The Big Red had previously only gone to overtime five times, with their first overtime game in 1996 going to double overtime. Cornell's other four extra-period games ended after the first overtime. The team is now 4-2 in overtime games.

LEAGUE RANKINGS
After two weeks, Cornell's 322 yards of offense per game ranks it third in the league behind Army and Penn. In passing yards, the Big Red's Brendan Miller is second in the league with his 455 yards through the air and second with five passing touchdowns as well. Senior receiver Abe Mellinger is second in the league with 12 catches and 204 yards, and defensive teammates John Kelder and Michael Monahan are first in the league with 19 tackles each. Riley Scott, meanwhile, is one of four players in the country with a league-high two interceptions.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
In other CSFL games last weekend, Navy knocked off Princeton 62-13, and Post was demolished by Army in a 63-28 game. Navy and Army finished first and second in the league last season. Penn and Mansfield did not play last week.

OFFENSIVELY MINDED
Senior receiver Abe Mellinger was named the CSFL's Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19 for his eight-catch, 102-yard performance against Penn. Mellinger is the first Cornell player to earn the honor since Doug Famularo did after week three of the 2010 season. Mellinger currently tops the CSFL with his eight catches.

NATIONAL APPEAL
The sprint football team has players from 18 different states on the roster, with New York and California having the highest representation. Twenty-eight players hail from the Empire State while the Golden State has 10 players on the Big Red roster. Just one player comes from Georgia, Hawaii, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Virginia and Washington.

UP NEXT
After a home contest against the Tigers, Cornell is back on the road when it travels to West Point for a game against Army on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
