ABOUT THE BIG RED
After getting off to a 6-0-2 start in non-conference play in 2013, Cornell has dropped all of its last three contests by one-goal margins. Coincidentally, each of the team's six wins has come by one goal as well. Tuesday's game against Colgate is the last game against a non-league opponent for the Big Red this season and the perfect time for Cornell to find its firepower up front before Ivy League play resumes on Saturday. At 0-2 in conference, Cornell is tied with Dartmouth at the bottom of the standings. In last Saturday's game against Harvard, Cornell registered more shots than it has in any other game this season (22) with ten shots on goal – the most since the team's season opener against Detroit Mercy at Hartwick's Mayor's Cup – as the team was able to create veritable opportunities in transition in addition to the usual chances created by set pieces. Senior defenders Patrick Slogic and Jake Rinow lead the team with six points (2g, 2a), while fellow defender and classmate Jake Kirsch is tied with junior Conor Goepel with five points (2g, 1a). Goepel has the most shots on goal for Cornell so far this season with 17.

HEAD COACH JARO ZAWISLAN
After taking over a program that was 1-15 the season before his appointment as head coach, Jaro Zawislan has steadily improved men's soccer at Cornell; transforming an eighth-place team into Ivy League Champions and coaching the Big Red to the program's best season in nearly two decades. Zawislan, a native of Poland, now holds a 39-21-18 record after Saturday's loss to Harvard. He played soccer for four years at Clemson and then spent time professionally in the United States and Poland.

ABOUT COLGATE
The Raiders enter Tuesday's game on a two-game slide of their own after dropping Patriot League contests to Army and Navy last week. Colgate has gone 246:75 since its last goal – a Tyler Forbes strike in the 24th minute of the team's 1-1 draw with Loyola on Oct. 5. Both of the team's wins this season have come against teams Cornell has also played in Cal State Fullerton and Lafayette – the latter of whom battled the Big Red to a 0-0 draw on Sept. 24. Colgate is also struggling offensively this season, tallying only seven goals on 151 shot attempts. Seven of the Raiders' nine losses have been shutouts, and the team has yet to earn a road win in 2013.

THE SERIES WITH COLGATE
Dating back to 1921, the series between Cornell and Colgate has seen the Big Red claim 54 victories including the last four meetings. The last Colgate win came in 2008 in the form of a 2-0 shutout, with the Raiders tallying both scores in the second half. Since 2009, Cornell has outscored Colgate 9-2.

LAST TIME OUT
Last year's matchup in Hamilton, N.Y. saw the Big Red earn a 3-1 victory to remain undefeated at 11-0. Current junior Conor Goepel scored the first goal, while former captain Nico Nissl and Daniel Haber added the others.

323:74
Jake Kirsch's goal in the 82nd minute of Saturday's match against Harvard not only tied the score at one all and forced overtime, but also ended a Big Red scoring draught that spanned 323 minutes and 74 seconds. The last player to score for the Big Red was senior captain Patrick Slogic, who netted the team's only goal in a 1-0 win over Buffalo on Sept. 27. For Kirsch, it was his second goal of the season.

BACK TO BACK TO BACK
The Big Red opened the 2013 season with three straight overtime games; the last time a Cornell men's soccer team played in three straight games needing more than 90 minutes was in September 2006 against Buffalo, Boston University and Columbia.

SENIOR LEADERSHIP
For the second season in a row the Big Red has three captains, as Jake Rinow, Patrick Slogic and Benjamin Williams have assumed the role for their senior seasons. Slogic is coming off a First Team All-Ivy season in 2012 and was named to the MAC Hermann watch list and as a contender for the Senior CLASS Award in the weeks prior to the 2013 season.

FRESH FACES
Cornell added 13 newcomers to the roster for the 2013 campaign, many of whom will challenge the veteran players for playing time throughout the year. Goalkeeper Evan King, midfielder Madison Heck and midfield/forward hybrid Sebastian Scales all come to East Hill from Eastside FC in Washington State.

AIN'T THAT AMERICA
Nearly all of the players on this season's roster hail from one of 12 states, as California, New York and Washington each claim claiming four players. The Big Red has three players from New Jersey, two from both Colorado and Indiana and one each from Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan and Nebraska. Freshman JJ Black hails from Cambridge, England.

UP NEXT
The Big Red will travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on current Ivy League leader, Yale, and resume league play on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 3:30 p.m.
