WEST POINT, N.Y. — The women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches, then rolled to six easy straight-sets victory in singles to blank Army on Saturday, 7-0, in a non-league match at Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
After the Black Knights won the No. 3 doubles match to start off the day, senior
Sarah O'Neil and freshman
Lauren Frazier – an All-Ivy League First Team tandem from last year – locked down an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles. Senior
Christine Ordway and junior
Ryann Young then gave the Big Red its first point of the day with an 8-6 win over Margaret Iliev and Carolyn Pitman at the No. 2 spot.
Cornell (3-0) then dominated all of the singles matches, with all six competitors dropping no more than three totals games over their two sets. Freshman
Laila Judeh won her match at No. 5 in the minimum 12 games, and classmate
Dena Tanenbaum dropped just one game in her victory at No. 4.
The victory gives the Big Red a 10-1 advantage in the all-time series against Army (5-3). Cornell returns home for its next matches, hosting Albany (9:30 a.m.) and Fairleigh Dickinson (3 p.m.) in a non-league doubleheader on Saturday, March 2 at Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca.
