Sarah O'Neil teamed with sophomore
Nina Turudic to win the No. 3 doubles match, then went on to defeat Dartmouth's Sarah Leonard in straight sets at the No. 1 singles position to help the Big Red women's tennis team defeat Dartmouth, 4-3, on Friday at Reis Tennis Center.
Junior
Ryann Young also won both a singles and a doubles match for Cornell (12-1, 1-1 Ivy League), which defeated Dartmouth for the seventh time in 30 all-time meetings. This is the third consecutive season that the score in the teams' Ivy League match was 4-3, and the first time since 2009 that the Big Red came out on top.
Cornell started the match by locking up the doubles point behind victories at the top and bottom spots. The Big Red split up its All-Ivy League pair of sophomore
Lauren Frazier and O'Neil, but both won ttheir respecitve matches with their new partners. O'Neil, competed at the No. 3 position for the first time this season, teamed with Turudic in her collegiate dual match debut to defeat Julienne Keong Si Ying and Suzy Tan, 8-3. The Big Red then clinched the opening point with Frazier and Young 8-6 winners over Akiko Okuda and Katherine Yau at the No. 1 position.
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets, with the Big Red surging to a 3-0 lead by winning the first two to played to completion. Young dropped just one game to Janet Liu at the No. 2 spot, and freshman
Dena Tanenbaum cruised past Okuda at No. 4, 6-0, 6-2. The Big Green then got on the board with a win at No. 3, but O'Neil clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Sarah Leonard at the top spot.
Cornell returns to action against Harvard at 2 p.m. Saturday.
