CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore
Jason Luu won his fourth consecutive singles match on Sunday, but that would be the only bright spot for the men's tennis team in a 6-1 loss to Ivy League favorite Harvard.
Cornell (12-6, 1-2 Ivy League), ranked 48th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, dropped the first two doubles matches to be played to completion to allow Harvard to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 3 tilt between Cornell sophomores
Kyle Berman and
Sam Fleck and Harvard's Alex Steinroeder and Kelvin Lam did not finish.
Fleck then took his No. 2 singles match to a third-set tiebreaker, and sophomore
Alex Sidney also extended his No. 3 singles match to a second-set tiebreaker. But Luu came through at the No. 5 spot, topping Nicky Hu in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
After three consecutive Ivy League matches on the road, the Big Red will return home for the first time in more than a month when its plays host to Ancient Eight rivals Yale and Brown next weekend. The Big Red will take on the Bulldogs at 2 p.m. Saturday, then it will oppose Brown at 2 p.m. Sunday.
