WATERBURY, Conn. – Cornell Sprint Football dropped its season-opening contest to Post on Saturday 21-10 as the Eagles were able to quell the Big Red running game as well as senior quarterback Brendan Miller in their come-from-behind win.

Despite giving up a touchdown just 13 seconds into the first quarter on a 91-yard Post kick return, the Big Red offense was able to manufacture a scoring drive just over two minutes later to tie the game and entered the half with a 10-7 lead.

With 12:06 to play in the first quarter, Miller connected with running back Benjamin Herrera on a four-yard pass into the end zone to complete a five-play 61-yard scoring drive for the first Big Red touchdown of the season. John Rodriguez added the extra point to make it a 7-7 game.

The Big Red offense was unable to capitalize on a Chris Sitko interception late in the first, as the ensuing Cornell drive resulted in a missed 45-yard field goal.

However, midway through the second quarter Rodriguez capped an 11-play, 50-yard drive with a 27-yard field goal to put Cornell up 10-7.

Led by freshman running back James Harrington, the Post running game dominated the second half. Harrington ran for 156 total yards and accounted for both Eagle touchdowns in the second half and help Post to its first win.

Spenser Gruenenfelder was the Big Red's leading receiver on the day with 132 total yards, while Kevin Nathanson led the team on the ground with 42 rushing yards.

The Big Red will travel to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. next weekend to take on Franklin Pierce in the Adirondack Trust Allegiance Bowl at Saratoga High School.
