ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell women's hockey continued its two-game weekend set on Saturday, welcoming Yale for the team's annual fundraiser game to benefit the United Way of Tompkins County. The Big Red picked up right where it left off, scoring two goals in each period in the 6-2 rout of the Bulldogs.

Junior Taylor Woods made the first start of her Big Red career in defense and it did not take her long to make an impact at her new blue-line role. She tallied her first two goals of the season, including the game-winner.

Freshman Erin O'Connor continued her hot streak finishing with three points. She marked her first collegiate goal in the second period, while she added two more assists to give her five helpers on the weekend. Junior Morgan Richardson scored her first goal of the season, while senior Jillian Saulnier and freshman Sarah Knee added goals for the Big Red. Senior Emily Fulton continued her torrid start with three more helpers, while Brianne Jenner picked up two apples on the day.

Sophomore net-minder Paula Voorheis (W, 2-4-0) was steady when called upon; making 10 saves to mark her second victory of the season.

As was the case yesterday against Brown, Cornell (2-4-0; 2-2-0 ECAC Hockey) came flying out of the gate in today's game against Yale (3-3-1; 1-3-0 ECAC Hockey). The Big Red tallied twice in the opening 4:06 of the contest to jump out to the early lead.

Junior Morgan Richardson opened the scoring at 1:49 of the first period. Senior captain Brianne Jenner started the scoring play, moving the puck down low in the Yale zone. Junior Anna Zorn corralled the puck behind the net and carried it around the net, before dishing it to the left point. Richardson's ripped a slapper from just inside the blue-line that beat screened Yale net-minder Jaimie Leonoff high glove for the 1-0 early lead.

The Big Red added on 2:17 later. Working an aggressive forecheck, senior Emily Fulton stripped the puck in the left circle. She cut toward the high-slot and dished a pass to pinching defender Sarah Knee who moved in uncontested down the right wing. The freshman slid the puck five-hole for her second goal on the young season.

Yale regrouped following the early shock-and-awe from Cornell. The Bulldogs answered Knee's goal, with a goal of their own off the ensuing faceoff. Jackie Raines worked the puck up the right side boards. Jamie Haddad corralled the puck at the right half wall with speed and cut inside towards net on a two-on-one with Courtney Pensavalle. She worked the puck to her backhand and directed the puck towards the far post where Pansavalle tapped it past Voorheis to cut the deficit to 2-1 at 4:25 of the first.

The Big Red reestablished the two-goal lead at 4:22 of the second on Woods first tally of the game. Fulton again started the scoring play, moving the puck to O'Connor at the center-point. She fired a shot that Woods deflected in the high-slot, beating Leonoff low glove-side.

A glut of penalties on both sides continued through the rest of the middle frame. Saulnier went off for a tripping minor at 4:57 of the period, but the Bulldogs' Aurora Kennedy and Taylor Marchin took successive minor just over a minute later setting up a five-on-three for the Big Red. The team would mark its first of three power-play markers on the two-player advantage. Fulton worked the puck to the end-line to Saulnier who whipped it across the crease to O'Connor in the left circle. She one timed a shot low inside the near post past the sprawling Leonoff to up the lead to 4-1.

Continuing the trend, Cornell added two more early goals to begin the third period. Saulnier scored the first tally of the period, again coming with Cornell holding the five-on-three advantage. Jenner worked the puck back to O'Connor who fired a stretch pass to Saulnier who was flying with speed into the attacking zone. She beat Leonoff for her third of the season.

Woods capped the Cornell scoring on the remaining player advantage just 30 seconds later. Knee moved the puck to Poudrier at the point. She whipped the puck to the net, where Woods got a stick on it to deflect it into the twine.

Yale would pull one back at 14:56 of the period on a goal from Haddad with Krista Yip-Chuck and Aurora Kennedy collecting the assists. It was too little too late for the Bulldogs, as the Big Red had little trouble holding onto the sizeable advantage.

Cornell finished with a 32-12 edge in shots on goal for the contest. The victory evened the Big Red's record to 2-2 in ECAC Hockey play.

The Big Red will have a quick turnaround as the squad concludes its five-game home stand on Tuesday evening when it welcomes local rival Colgate to Lynah Rink. Opening puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
