ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team wrapped up the defense of its No. 6 position in the national rankings in style on Sunday, rolling to a 9-0 victory over No. 7 Stanford at Belkin International Squash Courts to close out play at the Cornell Round Robin.
Six of the nine scoring matches were decided in three games — two apiece in each rotation. Freshman
Emma Uible yielded the fewest points with her win at the No. 6 spot. Simultaneously, senior
Rachel Au was winning her match at No. 9 on the next court over, and sophomore
Rachel Scherman won on the showcase court in four games at No. 3.
The only match to go five games was at No. 2, though freshman Michèle Garceau never trailed before cruising to an 11-3 vcitory in the decisive fifth game. By that point, Cornell had already clinched the match thanks to sweeps from junior co-captain
Reut Odinak at No. 8 and senior
Lindsay Seginson at No. 5.
To wrap up the sweep, freshman
Charlotte Knaggs won in four at the No. 7 spot, and freshman
Margaux Losty (No. 4) and
Danielle Letourneau (No. 1) each won in three.
It's the sixth consecutive win for Cornell against rival Stanford since the Big Red took over the national No. 6 ranking during the 2012 Howe Cup.
With its 3-0 start to season, the Big Red has staved off the two teams immediately behind it in the College Squash Association's national rankings. Cornell starts Ivy League play in two weeks with a match at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7 at No. 9 Columbia.
