HANOVER, N.H. – Freshman
Colin Sinclair won his No. 6 singles match, but that was the only point the men's tennis team generated Monday in a 4-1 against Dartmouth in the third-place match of the ECAC Indoor Championships at Boss Tennis Center. The Big Red, which was the defending champion, finished fourth.
Sinclair was competing in his first match of the weekend. After winning the first set against Diego Pedraza in a tiebreaker, Sinclair wrapped up the Big Red's lone point in straight sets.
Third-seeded and 63
rd-ranked Dartmouth (9-2) had already put fourth-seeded and 62
nd-ranked Cornell (5-4) on the brink by that point, sweeping all three doubles matches and winning the Nos. 1 and 3 singles matches. But the match was closer than the score would indicate, with the Big Green needing tiebreakers in two of its victorious singles matches. The two unfinished matches were both entering a third set when play was halted.
The Big Red will take a week off from competition before resuming play at home Feb. 28 against #56 Middle Tennessee State and March 1 against #59 Nebraska at Reis Tennis Center.
