NEW YORK – The women's tennis team won its fourth straight doubles point of the season, but couldn't keep the momentum Saturday in a 5-2 loss to Dartmouth in the fifth-place match of the ECAC Indoor Championships at Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
Cornell (2-2) took the early 1-0 lead after winning two of three doubles matches. The freshman team of
Marika Cusick and
Alexandra D'Ascenzo took care of the No. 1 match, 6-4, then junior
Lauren Frazier and sophomore
Dena Tanenbaum wrapped up the match's first point with a 6-3 triumph at the No. 2 position.
But Dartmouth (2-2) went on to win five of the six singles matches. Tanenbaum (No. 1), D'Ascenzo (No. 3) and sophomore
Christy Kung (No. 5) all forced a third-set tiebreaker, only to come up short in each of their respective matches. Senior
Shannon Comolli accounted for the Big Red's second point, topping Sarah Bessen, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 6 position.
The Big Red heads to the Yellowhammer State for a pair of matches next weekend, taking on South Alabama on Sunday, Feb. 16 and Troy on Monday, Feb. 17.
