CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior attack Lindsay Toppe had three goals on the day, but the Cornell women's lacrosse team was unable to slip by Harvard as the Crimson (2-1, 1-0 Ivy League) defeated the Big Red (1-1, 0-1), 10-7, Saturday in Cambridge.

Junior midfielder Sarah Hefner opened up scoring at 28:12 in the first half off an assist from junior attack Emily Tripodi, but 36 seconds later, Marisa Romeo slipped one past Cornell freshman goaltender Renee Poullott to even the game at one.

Toppe and senior midfielder Amanda D'Amico then had a pair of goals just 44 seconds apart to give the Big Red a 3-1 lead. The Crimson came back to score three in a row to give Harvard its first lead of the game. With 12:00 remaining before the intermission, Toppe put away a pass from senior attack Rachel Moody to tie up the game at 4. Hefner and Toppe each scored again, but Harvard's Maeve McMahon put one away at 2:33 remaining before the half.

The Crimson carried that momentum into the second half and expanded its lead to 8-6 before D'Amico found the back of the net for the Big Red to cut Cornell's deficit to one. Harvard finished strong, scoring two in the final five minutes of play and handing the Big Red a 10-7 loss.

Hefner had eight of Cornell's 11 draw controls as the Big Red won 11-of-19, but was outshot 26-25 by Harvard.

Poullott had seven saves

The Big Red will be back in action on Wednesday, March 4 at Columbia for a 4 p.m. start time.
