ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman
Marika Cusick locked up the winning point for the women's tennis team Saturday, winning her No. 2 singles match in three sets to lead the Big Red to a 4-3 victory over Binghamton at Reis Tennis Center.
Cusick's match against Annie DiMuro was the only one of six singles tilts to go to a third set, and it came with the match tied at 3 following the Bearcats' win at the No. 6 spot. Cusick made quick work of the final, winning 6-1 to push Cornell's all-time record against Binghamton to 14-2.
The Big Red started off the day by winning the doubles point before splitting the six singles matches. Junior Lauren Frazer and senior
Shannon Comolli teamed up to win the No. 1 match, and sophomores
Christy Kung and
Dena Tanenbaum then won the No. 3 match by an identical 8-2 score.
Tanenbaum then kicked off singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot. Binghamton (4-7) came back to tie the match before Comolli gave the Big Red a 3-2 lead at the No. 4 position.
