Game Highlights
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's lacrosse team earned a 13-6 victory against Columbia on Saturday at Shoellkopf Field. The Big Red (3-1, 1-1 Ivy) remains unbeaten against the Lions (1-2, 0-2) through 18 games.
Just 22 seconds into the game, Cornell's
Amanda D'Amico found the back of the net. At 26:25, Columbia's Katie Angulo put the Lions on the board off a free-position shot.
The Big Red then went on a 7-0 run, tallying two goals from
Lindsay Toppe, two from
Catherine Ellis, and one each from
Kailey O'Hagan, D'Amico and
Chelsea Rowe. Columbia's Paige Cuscovitch scored on a free-position shot with two seconds left to make it 8-2 going into halftime.
Toppe, Moody, and D'Amico all found the back of the net before the Lions could answer back, but when they did, Kate Murphy scored twice and assisted on a Sarah Greenburg goal at 9:36 to make it 11-5, Cornell.
Toppe netted her fourth goal of the game at 5:59 off a pass from
Rachel Moody and 2:06 later,
Olivia Mattyasovszky had her first goal of the season with help from O'Hagan.
Murphy had one last tally for Columbia with four seconds remaining.
The Big Red outshot the Lions 26-6, with 10 of Columbia's shot coming in the second half. Cornell also won 12-of-22 draw controls.
Renee Poullott and
Carly Gniewek split time in the crease, with Poullott recording two in the first half and Gniewek with four in the second.
Kate Murphy led the offense for the Lions, notching three goals and one assist. Goaltender Colleen Packer had four saves in the crease.
The Big Red returns to action on March 12 when it travels to Binghamton to take on the Bearcats at 4 p.m.
