Princeton Tops Big Red In Ivy Tournament Semifinals, 12-5

PRINCETON, N.J. – Erin McMunn was unstoppable in the Ivy League Tournament semifinal, scoring seven goals and adding one assist to lead Princeton over the Big Red, 12-5. Amanda D'Amico had a hat trick for the Big Red and Lindsay Toppe added two goals, but Cornell was unable to overcome two 5-0 scoring runs by the Tigers and was eliminated from the Ivy tournament Friday night at Princeton. The Big Red finished the season 7-9 overall.

McMunn opened up scoring just 35 seconds into the game to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead. D'Amico answered back with the equalizer through traffic at 17:55, but Princeton then went on a 5-0 run with three more goals by McMunn, one from Alexandra Bruno and one from Blake Dietrick to send the Tigers into halftime up 6-1.

D'Amico found her second goal of the game 2:16 into the second half after receiving a pass from Emily Tripodi and dodging past Princeton defender Liz Bannadine.

McMunn then sandwiched a pair of goals by Anya Gersoff and Olivia Hompe added a tally to give the Tigers an 11-2 advantage with 16:09 remaining.

19:08 passed before the Big Red got on the board again, and it was Ivy League Attacker of the Year Lindsay Toppe who finished a pass from Kristy Gilbert to give Cornell its third goal of the game. Toppe scored again 1:31 later, this time unassisted to cut the deficit to 11-4.

Hompe assisted McMunn on her seventh and final goal of the game, and then D'Amico capitalized on a free-position shot with 1:30 left to make the final tally 12-5 in favor of the Tigers.
Despite being outshot 26-24, Princeton held a 13-6 advantage in draws which proved to be key for the Tigers. Princeton also won four more ground balls than the Big Red (15-11).

Princeton's Erin McMunn finished the day with seven goals and one assist and Olivia Hompe added one goal and two assists for the Tigers. Annie Woehling had ten saves in the crease for the Tigers.

Amanda D'Amico had a hat trick and Lindsay Toppe added two goals for the Big Red. Carly Gniewek finished the day with three saves and split time in the crease with Renee Poullott, who had two.

The Tigers will face Penn in the Ivy League Tournament championship at Princeton tomorrow at noon. The Big Red finished the season 7-9 overall and 4-3 in Ivy League play.
