ITHACA, N.Y. — Sophomore Alexandra D'Ascenzo rallied to win her No. 2 singles matches in three sets, but the women's tennis team's rally against Penn came up just short on Friday afternoon in a 4-3 loss at Reis Tennis Center. Freshmen Lizzie Stewart (No. 4) and Priyanka Shah (No. 6) also won their respective singles matches, but Penn held on to win after winning the doubles point to start the day.
 
Cornell (9-8, 3-3 Ivy League), which is ranked 75th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national rankings, will wrap up its season at noon Sunday at Princeton. The match will serve as the program's inaugural Alumni Day, with a meet-and-greet with the players after the match.
 
After Penn won the doubles point, it captured two of the first three singles to be completed to take a commanding 3-1 lead. Shah started the Big Red's rally with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alexandra Ion, then D'Ascenzo tied the score at three by shaking off a tiebreaker loss in the first set to win in three. That left the balance of the match to the No. 1 singles position, which was close from start to finish.
