SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 9 Cornell heavyweight rowing team earned a clean sweep this morning over No. 12 Navy and No. 13 Syracuse to win the Goes Trophy and the Stagg Trophy on Onondaga Lake. With its win in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, and freshmen eight, the Big Red earned a sweep over the Midshipmen and Orange for the first time since 1974, and just sixth time in the history of the series.

The Goes Trophy is awarded to the winner of the varsity eight race, while the Stagg Trophy is awarded to the overall winner of the day's races.

Cornell earns consecutive Goes Trophies for the first time since 2009/2010 and consecutive Stagg Trophies for the first time since winning four straight from 2001-04.

The Big Red won the varsity eight over Navy by just under a second and held a nearly four second margin of victory over Syracuse in the second varsity eight. Cornell also picked up convincing wins in the third varsity eight, fourth varsity eight, and freshmen eight, beating the Midshipman to the line in all three of the final races on the day.

The heavyweights are back in action next weekend as they welcome No. 3 Princeton and No. 5 Yale in a race for the Carnegie Cup on Saturday, April 25 on the Cayuga Lake Inlet.
